I've always rated this Charlie Feathers penned SUN classic as one of Elvis' best performances on SUN, together with the flip side of the terrific 45 it was part of, "Mystery Train". I think the drums played a big part in the amazingly full overall sound (played by fellow SUN musician Johnny Bernero), in conjunction, of course, with Scotty's flawless lead and Bill's thumping dog house bass! I've always had a keen ear for 'galloping' drums in ballads and have used that formula on several tracks myself throughout the years (one of the first must've been "Bet Your Bottom Dollar" on the US Seagull label, released in 1972), possibly from the first time I ever heard this track by Elvis when it was re-released by RCA over here in Europe as part of an EP in the late '50s! I mean, just the title alone is pure genious, "I Forgot To Remember To Forget", voow!! Just imagine what could've happened musical wise if Elvis had continued recording at the immortal 706 Union Ave. studio in Memphis!!!! I get dizzy just thinking about it! The people at RCA did know absolutely nothing about rock'n roll and I still think that "Heartbreak Hotel" is proof enough as far as the production side of matters is concerned, 'nuff said...
This instru version is yet another example of those blazingly fast 'produced' recordings I did in '97, when I cut 62 tracks in one month!! All recorded in my living room on a cheap 6-track CASSETTE recorder and using only two guitars, a Charvel HM axe with Floyd and a 12-string acoustic Takamine, plus an Alesis SR-16 drum machine triggered live by me playing on Roland drum pads, period! Hope you'll enjoy. Hank C...

I also think this song is terrific. In fact this was the first Elvis record I got from my older sister in 1958 and than I was hooked forever. Thanks for this very good instrumental version!

It's very good, and the pictures are wonderfull, but to respons on a comment behind, Elvis had all what he needed, his music! But the public asked more and more with the time and creativity needs liberty
