Alberto Giacometti
"Alberto Giacometti (10 October 1901 11 January 1966) was a Swiss sculptor, painter, draughtsman, and printmaker. Alberto Giacometti was born in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland and came from an artistic background; his father, Giovanni, was a well-known Post-Impressionist painter. Alberto was the eldest of four children and was always especially close to the brother nearest to him in age, Diego. From the beginning, he was interested in art."

  • Also check out the books by James Lord. He wrote a few. I would also look into some of the filmed & aural interviews.

  • There is a great book by David Sylvester entitled "Looking at Giacometti".

My take on the two sculptures of which you speak (standing females) is they exist as both prostitutes & goddesses. Their gazes are confronting. The elongation & surface shows the figure as fragile & temporary. The space or "aura" around the figures as pure energy. I think that he was showing his visual impressions & memories of what he actually saw.

  • @robek518 What do his sculptures mean???i need to write an essay on Tall Fig 2 and 3, for art history!!!

  • Nice tribute to a genius. Thanks for creating.
