I love this aria so much, and J. D. Florez sings it in a way that, every time I listen it, tears fall from my eyes...
-
She does not look "contento" at all.......
-
@philipc67 He is a leggiero tenor
-
Why do you criticize J.D.Florez about his fast vibrato? Francesko Tamagno even had a much faster vibrato.
-

Superb. His voice is not big (lyric tenore di grazia/coloratura), but the flexibility, expressivity and phrasing are already admirable to see 6 years ago. He also has an instantly recognisable voice, the mark of a true artist. I recently saw him as Tonio in FILLE DU REGIMENT at Covent garden. Of course, the big showcase aria in the first act was brilliant, but it was his slower second act aria which moved me profoundly, 4 minutes of great signing, pure joy. Our generation is lucky to have him.

I think Florez is one of the best tenors alive today! People who criticize him here only make themselves look foolish in my opinion. It's oblivious he's worked incredibly hard to get to that level of performance. There are many false opera singers fueled only by their image. This man is a real bel canto singer, a rare breed. Not to mention this is possibly one of the most difficult tenor roles to sing.. How incredible Rubini must have been! I think he would have liked Florez!
