@MisterLollypop to me it seems more opinion based. I have not done the research to tell the difference, but I can if you want.

@MisterLollypop there are almost no solos in black metal, the song structure is more unconventional. no clear verse-chorus (most of the time). there are many more synths and keyboards in melodic black in general as well, especially with shade empire, giving it a techno feel.
