Movie Description - Though white laborer Richard Loving (Timothy Hutton) and his African-American girlfriend, Bean Jeter (Lela Rochon), want to marry, it's illegal for them to do so in 1960 Virginia. With a child on the way, they wed in Washington, D.C., then spend years struggling to be allowed to live in their hometown of Central Point. This moving drama is based on the true story that led to the 1967 Supreme Court decision ending the ban on interracial marriage.

  • @erinra I live in the US. We elected our first EVER non-white president and a lot of white people lost their minds. Why? Because they don't want a black president. Shyt they don't even want a black boss or a black neighbor for that matter. When he was running for office all those things that you said we should get over and let sleeping dogs lie started to come out. It's far from over. If it wasn't for the LAWS these people would have us in shackles. And you want me to get over that, lol.

  • I love interracial couples so much.

  • @BXTALE I have heard documentary footage of Southern ministers saying that the races were put on different continents because they were supposed to be separated. That statement was in one of the clips I saw once referring to a movie about the Lovings and the time period. That is an excuse for HATE SPEECH and bigotry and is nothing but an excuse to the rest of the world about them being racist a**holes and hiding behind religion. Although the bible does condone and give directions on slavery.

  • Last comment for the Christian's and non-Christian's alike. The bible speaks about "obey your masters" (slavery was excepted and right). "Obey your government", in other words follow the laws of the land, pay your taxes, etc... "Thou shall not kill", UNLESS you are at War, then it is holy to fight for what is right. If you steal, cut off an arm. Oh and lets not forget "an eye for an eye". Yep, that was Jesus in the bible speaking...

  • One more comment: Young people have no clue on how bad it used to be here. At one time, it was illegal for blacks to learn to read, nor could they even marry each other. Japanese-Americans were put into camps during World War II, people in Hollywood were black-listed and could not make a living because they may be "communists" (like the Salem witch trials"! This country by no means has been "like an angel". Oh, and for all the Christian's out there...wait until you see my next post!

  • And I do agree with so many of the comments made here. This is about an inter-racial couple, a white man & a black woman who fell in love, it has NOTHING to do with gay marriage, or gay rights. To many comments here have made it into that, so basically what I am saying is this: QUIT! Legal rights for gay's is an entirely different issue and an entirely different story, period. This story of love between 2 different races seems to have lost its meaning because of the "gay card" being pulled out.

  • The documentary "The Loving Story" will be playing Tues. 9pm (Feb 14) on Showtime. Now while this movie is really good & emotional, the "real" Mrs. Loving who passed away in 2008 quoted this about the film "the only thing that was actually true was that I had 3 children". But it is worth watching! They were arrested for being married (only 5 weeks after being married), and it is true the sheriff burst into their bedroom at 3 am. The history of the things that were "illegal" in the good ol' USA?!

  • @kellyannabama Marriage is a legal contract. In the United States we have a separation of church and state. End of story. If you don't agree with gay marriage, don't marry a gay person. At what point in time did all of you 'so called Christians' forget that God is a loving and forgiving God. It is not your place to judge other peoples lifestyles. People like you are the real problem in this country, not gays and lesbians.

  • @tosheatower gay marriage is not the same as interracial marriage.. because the meaning of marriage dose not change with interacial marriage... Gays cant produce and their lifestyle is a product of pervsion and abuse in early years they should get help not be in the streets having gay rights parade acting like sinners...

  • @PivotPro333 its not the same type of deal gays are not being discrimated they just dont have the right to force their views down peoples thorats... What mr and Ms loving went through was discrimantion

  • @azmildman Your last sentence doesnt make sense.
