Parallax Occlusion Mapped grass in the Source Engine via ImGarfield's shader from the HL2World forums.

This no longer functions as of Source 2. I'll see what I can do when Valve decides to release the OrangeBox Shader SDK.

  • Just want to throw this out there:

This video was shot on an ATI x800, which was able to do this at a good 50 FPS.

  • Holy shit! It's amazing, truly amazing. Looks like real. I'm really glad I found your videos.

  • Thanks.

  • soon having Polygons will be obsolete & the whole game will just be very steep Parallax maps (jk)

  • i dont think so you have huge limitation with parallax mapping.. you cant go "into" the texture nor you can display 3d object.. if you want that you need a 3D texture for the whole game but thats incredible memory waste and not very detailed and fast...

  • @ecreif Tesselation fixes most of those problems.

  • :O omg hahah nice :D, does it work for another software? , blender or something like that?

  • @PairoftheSocks It tends to stop at the next anisotropy of the texture, so the higher your aniso is the further it goes

  • Too bad this doesn't work anymore.

  • holy shit this is an amazing idea! Why has no-one else thought of bloody parallaxed grass???????

  • HELLO I MISS GMOD. So badly.

  • How do you get this? Could you send me a map with it in it?

  • What does Parallaxed mean?

  • Pass that around m8, I still play around on source 2003 and I would enjoy this!

  • Are you rendering this at a distance as well? Cant really tell by the quality of video, but apparently games are supposed to have problems rendering parallax occlusion at angle at a distance.
