Death of Karen leader blow to Myanmar groups - 15 Feb 08

The Karen National Union, which is one of Myanmar's biggest rebel groups, has named a new leader following the murder of its chief.

KNU general secretary, Mahn Sha, was shot dead at his home in the Thai border town of Mae Sot on Thursday.

And, as Hannah Belcher reports, the secretary general's death is seen as a blow to the many tribal groups who are opposed to Myanmar's military government.

@kingstaffy The reason they wanted to break away from Burma is because they've been oppressed, unfairly treated, they have no representation in the government. Ever heard of "taxation without representation"? One of the main reason the United States fought the revolutionary war.
