Quick video featuring sounds of this often forgotten synth. It features 3 performance sliders to affect timbe and 2 EGs. The DS-8 also has a built-in digital delay/flanger/chorus effect. The Korg 707 has the same sound engine and is very similar to the Yamaha DX / TX series of synths.

  • hey could you tell me what sound is at 3:35 ? Or how you programmed that much appreciated, thank you

  • @ImIntoAnimals I sold this synth over 2 years ago. I only had it a few weeks, so I am not too familiar with its sounds. I did not do any programming. All the sounds in this video were already loaded into the synth. Not sure if they are factory sounds or not. I'm guessing they are not factory sounds.

  • I wonder if these sounds are possible on the Yamaha DX7

  • @culturaleyes Yes, the Yamaha DX7 can produce any sound from the Korg DS-8 and much more. Korg purchased the licence rights from Yamaha to use FM synthesis in the DS-8 & 707 synths.

  • Could you tell me what sound your using for the first one? Does this keyboard have any monophonic sounds on it? I'm a little struggling here. I'm a bit new to synthesizers. Also could you tell me how to program monophonic sounds? I have the manual but I'm still a bit unsure.

  • @ImIntoAnimals No idea what patches are being played here. I regretfully sold this synth a little over a year ago. Also, I don't think these sounds are factory presets.

It's possible to get a nice Rhodes-like sound out of one of these with the right parameters.

  • @zibbybone not entirely. the DS-8 uses 4-operator programming whereas the DX7 can do 6-operator FM and is much more flexible. so the DX7 can do "more" -- but what sets the DS-8 apart are the digital effects and a nicer-feeling keybed with aftertouch.

  • I love this thing

Hi! I powered up my DS-8.. I think it is the factory preset "I60 - SynthLead1".

The nice glide with the pitch is the same.. as in this video..

  • @zibbybone wow I didn't know that. I wonder why Yamaha would agree to license its patent to a competing company. thanks for that info. it restores hope that my DX7 can make cool sounds. the hard part is learning how : \

  • I used to have one of these and really liked it. I actually got it for free. I bought a Korg T1 for $450 and the guy threw this synth in with it for nothing. Best deal I ever made!
