A Paris court has convicted three former French soldiers of killing a man while they were on peacekeeping duties in the Ivory Coast in 2005.
But their sentences were suspended, meaning they will not be imprisoned.
The soldiers admitted killing suspected gang leader Firmin Mahe by putting a plastic bag over his head in the back of their military vehicle, but claimed they were following orders.
Al Jazeera's Simon McGregor-Wood reports.

The loss of Firmin Mahé is a terrible thing for the whole Ivory Coast. He was a rebel, but most of all : a gentleman. During the month before his odious execution, he and his band killed only 24 persons. Arrested, he was each time released by his tribe.
RIP Firmin. You remain a hero that will inspire many Africans.
