This just shows the basics of how a record player works and gives you something neat to do. You could record this way too if you had a flat soft surface with a perfectly steady needle applying just the right pressure and yelling into the cone.
When I was a kid, my dad and I recorded by sanding down an old record then rubbing some rosin on it. Let it sit in the sun for a few minutes. Then we used your recording method at 78rpm... You have to really yell loud!
