Tombaughs are using the Shelbourne stripper header. I had never heard of it. I took this video and then drove home to find it on YouTube. This device strips the wheat leaving the entire stalk remaining in the field. It is an amazing invention. Keep in mind that 100 years ago the header was invented. In the beginning the header was pulled by horses and similarly took the wheat while taking as little of the wheat as possible.

  • I will let you know about the straw. On July 14 at 9 pm the straw was in windrows waiting for the Tombaugh baler. I will check tomorrow to see if the straw in the wheel track was cut and raked. Remember that the duals reduce soil compaction. We want fluffy soil for the soybean crop to be grown here in the next 90 days.

  • is it so they can mow the straw afterwards?

  • man you can just zip right along with that compared to a flew head where the combine has to process everything

  • How does the stripper header work? Is there some type of vacuum suction that pulls the grain from the header into the combine?

  • Wow. If you can go that fast I can certainly see the appeal of this head. If I were him though I would take the duals off and run singles for wheat so you don't run over so much straw.
