Peshawar Bomb Blast Kills Five

A bomb exploded near a court building in the Pakistani city of Peshawar on Monday. At least five people have been killed.

Islamist militants, blamed for the attacks, have set off numerous bombs in Peshawar in recent months.. retaliating for an army offensive on their South Waziristan stronghold.

[Mohib Elahi, Injured in Blast]:
I was on my way to a Minister's office nearby to hand in a job application. As I was passing by the courts, there was an explosion. I don't know what happened after that.

Witnesses say the bomb was apparently planted in an auto-rickshaw near the court.

The chief of the bomb disposal squad said it was a suicide attack.

Pakistan is facing a stubborn Taliban insurgency and mounting U.S. pressure to root out Islamist militants on the Afghan border.
