When you see a classic PR-style Schwinn, you have to smile. But though we see them at big events, or riding around town, what do they do on their own time? Who are they?
Its hard to get an exact count on how many clubs there are in the city, and which one is oldest. But certainly one of the most established is the Puerto Rico Schwinn Club in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The Puerto Rican Schwinn Club is in its 27th year. The awards and banners that weigh down the shelves in the club garage are a testament to their success as a social organization. They have turned a personal obsession into a community service.
At their awards ceremony, a more personal side of the Schwinn tradition comes out. Members describe their groups and their relationships with their bikes.
Directed by Adam Schwartz. Special thanks to Paul Nicholson and Jan Van Damme of the Bushwick Beer Garden for being such great neighbors in Bushwick. And to Luis Gracia for turning a flat tire into a film!
