A deadly accident in the Himalayas. Fourteen people including four Americans, a Japanese and a British national, were killed when a private aircraft crashes in Nepal. Here's more on the story.

Death in Nepal. Fourteen people including four Americans, a Japanese and a British national, are killed when a private aircraft crashes in Nepal in bad weather.

The plane had five Nepalese passengers and a crew of three.

The Agni Air plane, which was flying towards the Everest region in northern Nepal, failed to land in Lukla, the gateway to Everest, and ended up crashing in a remote village.

"It's a very sad thing. It's a tragic accident. We appreciate the fact that the government of Nepal has responded as quickly as it has and it will be working with us, as we all seek to help our families to deal with this."

Authorities are still trying to determine what caused the crash. Local television channels reported that the plane had broken into pieces.

  • I was awaiting for this plane at lukla to fly part of our group from snowball expeditions to fly us back to kathmandu on 26th august 2010. Was a sad day for ALL. We had to wait a further 3 days till any planes were allowed to fly back into lukla. Will never ever forget this day. God rest everyone lost on that plane.
