Joe's POV
After leaving Demi in the guest room, i made my way to my room. I fell onto my bed and let out a loud scream into my pillow. I just couldn't believe it. He was my LITTLE brother. I was supposed to go before he did. I wish it would have happened that way. I wish i could have just run in front of the bullet and saved my little brothers life, but i couldn't. It should be Nick mourning over me right now, not the way it is.
I gathered enough strength to take my pants and shirt off, leaving me in my boxers, and crawled underneath the blankets. Nick should be here right now, joking around with the family, telling stories about his friends in the army, while he holds a cup of my mom's famous hot chocolate in one hand and Demi's hand in the other. He's supposed stay up with me all night, betting on who'd fall asleep first, because even though we're adults, we still do those kind of things.
A couple minutes later i heard a soft knock on my door. I got up to answer it and found Demi, lack of sleep and too much crying evident in her eyes.
"Demi?" i asked, looking into her eyes and leaning against the doorframe.
She took a second to think about what she was going to ask before she looked at me and said "I don't wanna sleep alone." I understood immediately and allowed her in. Truth is i didn't want to sleep by myself either.
I walked to my bed and laid down. Demi hesitantly sat on my bed. I looked at her and patted the spot next to me. She gave me a thankful smile before she crawled to where I was. We both stood in silence for a while, just listening to our steady breathing. A couple minutes later I turned to Demi who was staring blankly at the ceiling. I noticed she looked like she hadn't slept in days. She found out before me, so she must be very tired, because I know I was. But like me, I'm also sure she hadn't intentionally been avoiding sleep, she simply couldn't go to sleep. She couldn't sleep in a world without Nick.
"You know the thing that I hate the most?" Demi suddenly asked, still looking at the ceiling.
"What?" I asked, concerned.
"I hate that even though I haven't seen him in a year, I could've been able to go another five years without seeing him and still remain sane because I know he would've come back for me. Now, I can't bare another second without him knowing he'll never return." She said through her silent tears. I couldn't help but scoot closer to her and hug her in comfort. We stayed that way for what felt like hours. I kept thinking of all the memories I had of Nick, there were so many.
I would've assumed Demi was doing the same until I heard low snores coming from her. I was glad she could sleep, at least one of us deserved to have a couple hours of peace. I thought she would be out for the rest of the night but around two hours later she yelled, gasping for air as she jumped up. It took me a moment to realize she had a bad dream but then I hugged her. She buried her face into me, tears staining my bare chest. We held each other for a while until her tears started to stop. She pulled away and gave me a small thank you smile. I tried to smile back, but failed.
The rest of the time we both just stared into space, thinking of Nick the whole time. How could everyone sleep except us? I know why, they weren't his best friends. Nick told me everything about himself. He must've told Demi much more considering the fact they were so close to being vowed to stay together through anything.
The morning sun slowly crept into my window and I sighed, another miserable day living without him. Demi sighed to, I'm sure agreeing with my thought. We waited until we heard my parents got up for us to slowly make our way to join everyone.

Yay, we're back on track. I think we should tell our teachers to just screw all the work and have a little fun with us. I mean, writing stories like this one is highly educational, isn't it? :D
