2010 countdown not shut down

Anti-Olympics protesters failed to shut down the Vancouver Board of Trade's two-year countdown lunch on Feb. 11. Protesters spoke out against VANOC's Four Host First Nations society and claimed the Squamish, Musqueam, Lil'wat and Tsleil-Waututh chiefs have no grassroots support. None of the four tribes is near a land claims settlement with the federal and provincial governments, opting instead for short-term economic development projects like the 2010 Winter Olympics.

While I agree with you on the monetary cost of the games will be significant.

I am from Calgary and you may not remember but we had the Olympics in 1988 and no human rights violation occurred, and all environmental concerns were heard and sites were moved in regard to the protest.
