Lay your head to rest, my faithful friend
For I am here with you through the end

We've had some good memories, you often made me smile
In good or bad times, you brought comfort all the while

The world through your eyes I saw frequently
Like a angel from above sent to me

A long walk, a new toy, a car ride; all distant now
As you lay in pain my heart breaks and my head I bow

I prayed that you'd hurt no more and run through a field
As your body grew cold on the ground where I kneeled

I know that you've left, but right from the start
I knew you'd remain always in my heart

B.E. 2009

I wrote that during my lunch break at work two days after Sasha left us. I had no idea how much her death would affect me. We lost a great friend. A few days before this happened Sasha started acting a little different. On Saturday she had very little appetite, on Sunday she would not eat. We rushed her to the emergency vet early Sunday evening because she appeared to be in pain and discomfort. We spent most of the night there as they took blood and ran tests. Her gums had become pale and she was very weak. Our girl was suffering. X-rays were taken and a tumor was visible, as well as stomach gas and intestine gas. We were told that she would have to have blood transfusions to survive and regain strength for surgery to remove the tumor; we were ready to drive her to the next vet hospital that could do the blood transfusions. We were then told that her liver had failed though, and we would just be prolonging suffering. She was going to pass away regardless, we realized. As tears fell from our eyes, we agreed that we did not want Sasha's last days to be spent in a cage at some hospital, getting poked by strangers, away from us, only to face death anyway within days from her failing organs. The tumor was likely cancer, though a biopsy was not done, as we were already at the end of the road. She left us, in a act of mercy, and in our arms. We held her as she left us, and we cried, we cried a lot. We got home that night and realized that it was for real, and our home had a feeling of emptiness. She was loved. Thank you, to everyone for your support. We have enjoyed sharing our memories with you, and I think Sasha felt the love; she certainly was not camera shy.

  • Hi.

I have a one year old Dobie and I can honestly say they are by far the best breed of Dog.I couldnt describe the love my family and I feel for him. I am soooo sorry for the loss of your Dobie, but rest assured she is waiting at Rainbows bridge for you! xx

  • @trianna1970 Thank you, and best of luck with your dog.

  • @ohhsnaplove Thank you, and so sorry to hear about your Mandy.

  • Thank You so much for the Sasha videos, I enjoyed them so much. After I lost Rusty My 11 year old Dobe to liver cancer I swore I would never have another one, then I accidently found the Sasha vids, and it made me realize how empty the house was without a Dobe to run things.

So after several months of searching I found an awesome rescue Dobe, and just couldnt resist naming her Sasha.

Check out the two videos of her I have posted.

Congrats on the new girl, she seems like a sweetheart.

    Thanks

  • Thank you, and best of luck with your Sasha.

  • I have a dobie he got ran over by a power truck and survived.Thankfully only his back leg broke. We rushed him to the nearest

vet. He stayed for 2 months and we cared for him every morning by washing his leg and putting medicine on it. To this day his blood is stained in our car carpet. Thanks to the stain when he leaves we will never forget the horrible day. He is not the same dog he was back before that day. I'm sorry for your loss. She knows she has a family down here that misses her. :'(

  • There goes the greatest Canine American of German descent to ever grace this land :( I'm so sorry for your loss.

  • It always hurts to read about the pain a fellow Doberman Pinscher owner goes through when it comes time to say goodbye. They really are a different breed and those who have had one in their fully understand the meaning of unconditional love. I have two now and every day they are spoiled rotten so that when the time comes, in my heart I will know, that I returned the love that they had for me. I have no doubt that you will see Sasha again!

  • Thank you. Sorry about your Dillon.
