Research your list. The XB-70 cruise at 3.3 where as the Foxbat could reach only 2.97 unless the engines overspeeded and ran away this gave the impression it was able to sustain 3 plus. SR-71/A-12 cruised at 3.35 for hours while your number one is actually a rocket plane and yes with added tanks it exceed 5.4 mach it melted the tip of the rudder & burned off the non fucntional ram jet mockup being used for shock wave studies plus if one wants to be picky the Shuttle is fastest.

I find it hard to believe the F-111 was faster than the F-14. As I recall they used the same powerplants and the 111 was considerably heavier.

The X-15 is in a special catagory and the speed was NEVER duplicated by it as the Airframe sustained major thermal damage as I stated easily researched by the way.
