@jjovereats your post makes no sense. it's not an upsample. Watch the vid a little more carefully. No upsample. It's non-square PAR. Same as DV in terms of the non-square. Are you then also suggesting that DV is 4:2:1 because it's .909 vs 1.33 aspect?
There is no "usual upsample" for HDV. It's *always* either 1280 x 720 or 1440 x 1080 at acquisition, and delivered as either 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080. There is no "usual." It's one or the other.

@VASSTTraining It's usually uppscaled to 1920x1080, so yes it's a 3:2:0 downsample apparent. But 4:2:0 in reality.
Go get yourself a chocolate digestive and forget about your worries.

How come you talk about HD and this vd is not?????????????
Actually: 3:2:0 for HDV, because of the 1920 => 1440 downsample.

@jjovereats Actually not, because it's not a downsample. It's native at 1440. T'would appear you've gotten some misinformation or misunderstand the format. Resolution /anamorphic format don't change the chroma sampling scheme.
