Conditions: No Wind Launch. What little wind there was, was crossing from the right. The stalled left wing falls off and begins to enter a spin before flying speed is reached and control is regained.

Moral of the story....CONTROL THE ANGLE OF ATTACK. Watching all aspects of this launch objectively, I do not believe I made a lot of mistakes, but the one major mistake was not getting the wing flying before I loaded it with my weight. If I can run approx. 11 mph and the wing stalls with my weight at 22 mph, then the only way to fly safely away from the hill is to dive away from the hill. Diving the wing accomplishes airspeed gain and bridges the gap between 11 mph and 22 mph.

  • pure luck!

  • don't jump into a launch a wise man once told me. especially with the relative airspeed needed for that thing.

  • you don't need an assisted windy cliff launch when there's no wind.. you just need to run like a mofo from the start of the ramp not the end! The navy calls that a cold cat..

  • the problem is he started running from the red line wtf, the geezers dind know better, star running before u fall in the fuckg hole over the hill

  • ...wow...and the pilot was already dropping left hand to the base tube before getting more clear of launch. Certainly a short-short takeoff.

  • I am not into rigids but it seems the flaps were not used at all, is that normal? I think with no wind you should apply some flaps, that will let you fly at a lower speed... but I could be wrong.

But one thing I am sure of: If you cannot run as fast as the stall speed of your glider, then you just simply should not foot launch. You still can tow from a cart. The idea of "diving" off the hill sounds a "killer" idea to me.

  • i know that guy! i saw him when i went hang gliding in 2011! hes clarks friend

  • Crab angle in a crosswind. AOA and relative wind is only half of the objective.

  • you have a long ramp, why are u using only half of it?
