It would be much easier to sympathise with him had he dedicated his entire time to the family. Interesting trivia is that 5 and 6, the best SW films by common opinion were not written entirely by Lucas, and were mostly some other guy's work. "Some other guy" being let loose with 1/2/3 could have saved a whole lot of trouble with wooden acting and poor script writing... And with any luck lightsabre duels would still have a level of tension to them, not just pinball.
