All County Band: American River Songs (Feb 2009)

I recorded this in high def (HDV) and had a tape dropout (glitch) in the middle of the trumpet feature. This left about a 1 second blank gap in the video and audio. I repaired this as best I could by repeating some nearby video, and blending in about a second or two of audio from about 8 seconds earlier in the song.

So to the trumpet player who had this solo: if it sounds like you missed a few notes here, you probably played it right at the concert. I just had to do a little creative editing. (Can anybody else spot the repair?)

Preble County is a small, rural county in southwest Ohio. Each year students from five local schools -- Eaton, National Trail, Preble Shawnee, Tri-County North, and Twin Valley South -- are chosen to perform in an All-County band. The students spend two days together at the host school, Twin Valley South. They have very little time to learn the music: they see the music for the first time on Monday morning, and perform it in concert on Tuesday evening. Hopefully it is an enjoyable experience for all involved.

Yes, this is high school, but the concert was performed one day after they saw the music for the first time.  It is a band composed of the top musicians from our five, small, local high schools in a rural SW Ohio county. They get together for two days then have a concert. So they sight-read this piece on Monday, played it again on Tuesday, then had a concert that night. And all this with a guest conductor that none of them knew.

That trumpet solo was kinda bad. I'm in middle school and my band is playing that and I can play the solo 10 times better.
