Victor's Piano Solo from "The Corpse Bride"
Written by: Danny Elfman
Transcribed by: Duncan Bohannon
PROGRAM NOTES:
This piece originally appeared in The Corpse Bride movie by Tim Burton, with music by Danny Elfman (who also collaborated with Burton on the soundtrack to The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, and many others. One of the main characters, Victor, performs this solo in the beginning of the movie while waiting for his parents to marry him off to a girl whom he does not wish to be with in the least. The beginning of the work is slow and in a minor key, representing the lament Victor is feeling towards this unwanted wedding, but as the solo progresses, the emotion grows stronger and stronger to a soft but melodious climax, yet as the emotion welling up within the performer begins to become even more apparent there is an interruption.
