Live and play well enough to be called a legend, then you can critique what choice of cymbal to play.

i think the sounds of the ride is a matter of taste in a way, later he used the pads on the toms, to me more his personal way to hear his music and create his sound and dynamic vision of rythm. but i love his purity in a dynamic connection.

TW used that riveted cymbal due the sparseness of the music of its self. in a big you have a lot more instruments to cover any space in the music. with this quintet they all needed somethign to give them a constant backgroud sound. thus a riveted ride ride. it was a purely genius move in my opinion. but all in all. this was my absolute favorite miles quintet. absolute masters of jazz.

He isn't even 20 years old in this video! Mother of god!
I know everyone commenting here is going to scream at me but I don't like Tony's sizzle ride at all. I wish he'd of used a ride w/out rivets. Or just a single rivet ride. It's a cymbal that should be used very rarely unless in a small room with a trio? What dya think. RIP Tony.

I love the ride. It gives such a nice, dirty background buzz.
