Citizens of Madagascar refer to their nation as the "land of the ancestors". In many ways, theirs is a typical tribal society, and like many such societies they revere their ancestors.

But there's one big difference -- the Malagasy dote on their dead relatives to such a degree, that their remains are actually dug up.

  • 1. Huge run-on sentence.

    2. "Stupid ritual"? It's a part of their culture, don't question it. You don't understand the meaning behind it, so shut up.

  • I think it is so mean to describe that their ritual Culture is STUPID !!! you western people should think twice before you tell or write something. The world is not only Europe or America and the rest of the world doesn't have to follow your ritual culture. It is like I would say that your ritual Halloween is STUPID !!! So you better think twice or shut the moth outta of you brain!

  • @maxthenomad Don't blame it on "Western People." There's enough bullshit coming from certain areas to make a section of the earth seem like idiots. I'm as white and Western as they come and I think these traditions are beautiful.

Every religion or ritual that people perform is integral to humanity as a whole, except for violent or hateful ones. This ritual is not "stupid," it makes sense to celebrate a human life this way.

  • Yemen or Dubai....AlJazeera is NOT African or from Madagascar.

  • Western People? Do you REALIZE that it was Eastern People from the middle east, Yemen, that did that produced this video?

WTF do Arabs know about Madagascar? Pls......

  • lol

  • Such friendly people and perhaps their hope comes from these beliefs but as the young people over time in that country get better educated and this stupid ritual dies away will the false hope from this superstition vanish with their positive attitudes?

  • May the Manitou throw their blessings upon you
