That being said, that particular heavy metal is rather hard if you do not prioritise your kills. Vehicles shooting plasma do heavy damage so you want to flip those first to kill the gunner.
You will get something to replace your assault rifle soon. When you libirate this sector you can pay 750 salvage to get the best versatile weapon in the game.
