Special thanks to my brother AJ for taking some excellent video of my first cross country training flight. We're flying N9568L out of David Wayne Hooks Airport in Tomball, TX, to Brenham and back.

Here you get to see a perfect passenger point of view (since my brother practically has the camera strapped to his head, turning everywhere his eyeballs point =P ) as I approach the small Brenham, TX municipal airport from the east, set up into a short left downwind and land. Yes, I forgot to correct for the tailwind on the base leg and overshot my turn to final a little, but got right in and greased the landing.

  • @rolandjude That's good advice for sure. The best advice I ever saw abut not overrunning your bank to final was to shoot for a 5 degree angle to the threshhold on final. I've used that advice ever since and the worst that happens is that if I overrun my bank I wind up with almost a perfect straight in on final. Once the 5 degree angle is established its easy to make a minor adjustment to straight in.

  • Hope you enjoyed your meal at the Southern Flyer. The Chili and Cornbread is my personal favorite, but all their food is exceptional. The Poodle Girls are cute, too. I fly out of KCXO ( Conroe ). Just be careful if you go there for lunch on a weekend. Did that about two weeks ago. 10 or 12 aircraft calling in for pattern entry. Was in a C152 so had to keep giving way 'cause it's slooow. Finally went down South and circled for awhile. Followed a PA28 in finally on long downwind for 16.

  • Nice vid buddy but try and put a sponge on the mic nxt time. I used to fly out of DWH myself for our $100 burger at 11R. I'll be doing that again soon I hope, let me know yr tail number and i'll keep an eye out for ya, by the way, i know you're still green but try not to overrun yr bank into final, Rememberm airports like DWH, you can't be doing that or you can easily run into another plane on final. heads up !
