The House is expected to vote Sunday on the health care bill passed by the Senate in December.

Republicans have vowed to do everything they can to kill the bill.

Here's the latest on where the debate stands:

Chasing the votes: Democratic leaders continue to try to round up the 216 necessary votes to pass the bill. According to CNN's latest count, 29 Democrats plan to vote against the legislation. Thirty-eight Democratic "no" votes are needed to kill the bill.

Thirty-three House Democrats have told CNN they haven't yet decided how they will vote, and 23 have not responded to CNN's repeated inquiries.


Final plea: President Obama plans to address the House Democratic caucus on Saturday to make his final case for health care reform, according to four Democratic officials familiar with the plans.

One of the officials said the House Democrats are expected to come to the White House at 4 p.m. Saturday. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because of final details still being discussed between the White House and congressional officials.

Obama planned to meet with and call Congress members Friday afternoon, as he has been doing throughout the week.

"[Health care reform] deserves the same kind of up-or-down vote that was cast on welfare reform, the Children's Health Insurance Program, COBRA health coverage for the unemployed, and both Bush tax cuts all of which had to pass Congress with nothing more than a simple majority," the president said, citing five bills that were passed in the Senate using reconciliation rules

Republicans have been grousing for weeks about the use of reconciliation, saying it shortcuts the process and should not be used for a bill of such importance.

I cannot believe it...I pay U$ 550 for my 2 years old son and my wife's health insurance, I don't have one because I can't afford to pay U$ 850 for healthcare every month, besides that not happy with that the insurance company charges U$ 100 everytime I take my son to the doctor...Come on Guys, Are u guys crazy? I am trying to find and read a copy of the bill that he is signing off on.... If you read that, perhaps that might tell what exactly is going on, other than that people will have to just wait and see what will happen. If it is H.R. 3962, it is written "legalese", so it is difficult to understand.
