Kindergarten Teacher Accused of Humiliating A 5-year Old
A kindergarten teacher has been reassigned after she allowed her students to oust a fellow 5-year-old from the classroom because of his disciplinary problems.

Morningside Elementary School teacher Wendy Portillo was removed from classroom duties until further action may be determined, according to St. Lucie County School district spokesman Janice Karst said this week.

Last week, Portillo held a vote in her classroom in which the students "voted out" 5-year-old Alex Barton, who is in the process of being tested for Asperger's Disorder, a type of high-functioning autism, said his mother, Melissa Barton.

After each classmate was allowed to say what they didn't like about Alex the teacher said they were going to take a vote, Barton said. They said he was "disgusting" and "annoying," Barton said.

  • If his behavior was disruptive and bad I can understand calling him out for it but what that teacher did was wrong. I mean everyone stand up and go tell Alex what you hate about him? Way to wreck the kids spirit sure he was only five not like a full grown criminal. Idk about the aspergers thing though think it's more a label if anything, I mean I was even diagnosed with AS and I don't think I have it.

  • What the hell is with this "Sargent Sam" guy? He is not the least bit knowledgeable about Asperger's and Autism. This teacher absolutely deserved to be fired. He is just another one of these people trying to corrupt people into thinking the way he does. I know how it feels to be shunned and things like flapping arms and spinning in circles are stress relievers. The child does not know how to handle his problems with socialization, so he flaps his arms to deal with the sadness and frustration.

  • @PinkPunkyKat You say it! He deserves a good ass kicking! AS disorder children should not be ridiculed in front of his/her class... ANY child shouldn't!

  • Those men who condone this should go to hell! A teacher could call the principal to deal with the disruptive child... Plus, if he's Autistic... he CANNOT HELP IT! bunch of jerks.

  • so many ppl quick to claim some disorder is why a child has behaviour problems. behaviour is 100% learned. behavioural problems, add, adhd, w/e are just lazy adults excuses.

  • @lindscatlover She's not gonna sue the teacher. She's gonna rally a mob and beat the teacher to death with a shovel.

  • I wonder where this Sargent Sam lives, I have AS myself and want to pay him a little visit and kick his ass. Sargent Sam is the one who is assuming things. Look up Asperger's you dumb ass, Sargent Sam!

  • This child has Asperger's Syndrome. A child with AS may be five physicaly but mentaly he is probably around three. Stupid hick callers and that one announer. I want to punch them both. Hard!!!

  • Stupid hicks!
