By request, a teaching demo video of the Air "The Maids of Mourne Shore" (better known as the song tune "Down by the Sally Gardens") and also of the reel of the same title. I have tried to make my ornamentation/finger articulation very clear on the first time through the air and the slow version of the reel. The repeat of the air and the full speed version of the reel develop things a bit more. Of course, my way of doing it is just that - it isn't "the right way" and certainly not the only way, but as a way of approaching these tunes I hope this demonstration helps for anyone who is trying to find their way in traditional Irish music. I do not do so here, but it is quite traditional to segue from a slow air into a reel and you could do so with these tunes.

  • any ideas where i could get the sheet music... ?

  • @lobsangnyingpo: It is generally thought best to learn this kind of traditional music by ear - part of the point in the slow demonstrations! However, there are loads of online resources for notations of traditional Irish (and other ) music. Try the session dot org, but there are plenty of other sites mostly using ABC Notation - web-search to find out about that. If you do find notation, it won't really help you with the ornamentation/finger articulation. Good luck.
