i think it's pulling the creativiness out of people and kids. i never lied to my child about the holidays, but told him it's a game that's fun to play. and we've kept it that way over the years.

I have battles with my mother over christmas. I'm not religious and dislike the commercialism of the holiday. I think it sets people up for depression around this time of year.

The tree is pagan and part viking... the christians adopted it to appease the people they were trying to convert... settlers brought the traditions over as a "part of home, back across the pond"... bring in the 50s and 60s, era of the after school special... US made the trees all glittery and joly for the kids.. Xmas then morphed into the abomination it is today.. along with the Coca Cola Santa... which looked NOTHING like it does now... Santa kinda looked like a creepy rapist...

I never taught my kids to believe in any of that crap. Anyways, my dad got drunk when I was about 7 & shot Santa's sleigh right out of the sky. He said that fat bastard better not think about coming near his house !
