Thank you SO much for this tutorial. I'm a machine quilter and I've had people try and explain this method to me but it just didn't click, now I know what they're on about! Video was quite clear and instructions were very easy to understand. Now I don't dread doing the binding as much as I used to (let's face it, it's not the most fun part of doing a quilt is it?). Must go and crack on with all those tops I've never finished haha. Thanks again!

I finished my binding and my quilt! I had a bit of trouble folding it over in some spots and 'missed' the binding with the stitches on the back...:( but the mitering worked very well! thanks!

sorry, my baby accidentally hit the 2 dislikes of this video! loved the video!

@lcvday i usually let it slip thru my fingers with just a little grab here or there to keep it lined up, that way im not puting to much tension on it and i dont have to stop at all

Thanks so much, this is the BEST machine binding tutorial ever!
I'm using the Zig Zag Stitch in front. Should the edge of the binding be in the MIDDLE of the zig zag stitch or should it be on the left, with just a tiny bit of the stitch on the quilt top and the majority of the stitch landing on the binding to the right?
Also, how do you turn the corner and secure the mitered corner with the zig zag stitch?
Many thanks for your help!

I wish I would have seen this (part 1 and 2) 6 months ago. I made the most beautiful quilt but didn't know how to do the binding. So I sewed it on the best I knew how and it ruined the whole look of the quilt because it wasn't sewn right. Thanks for the 2 videos, now I can do it right!!

Wow.. I def need to try this - I have always straight stitched my bindings.

Thanks for the info.
Do you stitch on to the quilt top or at the edge of the binding?

@Linda7171 - To attach the binding, you are stitching mostly on the binding, through the quilt top to the other side. You can line up your zig zag stitch so that one side of it will swing off the side of the binding and into just the top so the edge is totally secure. I hope that makes sense!

what is the reasoning for wearing gloves to sew with?

I wear machingers to gain more control over the quilt and grip over the binding.
Without the gloves, the quilt will seem to slide through your fingers and you may struggle for control. That's just my experience anyway!

Oh my god, this is the best binding turorial I have EVER come across. I just started quilting and I'm not a perfectionist (yet) but my binding skills were terrible so was looking for a quick & easy fix. I'm so glad I came accross this & will watch it again as the joining of bindings in the middle will take some practice. Thanks so much.

Thanks! I'm so glad that I could help.
The joining the beginning with the end does take practice (every once and awhile I mess it up completely), but as long as you keep your tails long, you can always rip it out and sew it again.
I plan to do a better tutorial soon on finishing the binding by hand. Machine stitching it down is fine if you don't plan to show the quilt, but if you do, you really need to hand stitch it. Binding is one of the first things judges look at!
Good luck!
