  • Good song by Blondie & Ricky (and Mike I think!) that should never have been axed! Nice pics too thanks!

  • With the exception of Sail on Sailor and Only With You, this song might be better than everything else that is on the Holland album. They should have definitely included this song. And the studio version is a lot better than the concert one.

  • @Okiemom50 If the "Beach Boys In Concert" album liner notes are anything to go by, this is Ricky Fataar singing lead - I think it's the only song where he sang lead.

  • "Sail On Sailor" is a better tune, but "We Got Love" should be included in the Holland album. Maybe a re-release of the album could have this great song on the list. Blondie does a good lead vocal, and he really added something to the Beach Boys' sound. The group was a great rock band at the early 70s.

  • Has a country sound in the beginning. Just who was singing lead here? Doesn't sound like Blondie. Maybe Ricky?

  • @rickmpillay The record company didnt want to release the album they didnt think it had any hits then van dyke parks talked them into putting sail on sailor on there

  • @NickD58 Saw Blondie at a small club called My Fathers Place on Long Island around '75. He had a solo album out and was touring in support of it. He did play Sail On Sailor that night. Ricky now is the touring drummer for Bonnie Raitt.

  • The Blondie/Ricky period added some needed punch to the group. Would love to see a 50th anniversary tour with Mike, Dave Marks, Billy Hinsche, Bruce, Brian, Blondie, Al, Ricky and their long time touring member Ed Carter. He played on their albums and live going back to the late 60's.

  • Awesome. Thanks for posting. I was fortunate to see them twice during this period. Sept `72 in Ocean City, Md and Dec `73 in Wash DC. Also saw Ricky Faatar live in March `75 playing drums for Joe Walsh and Blondie Chaplin live in late `90`s/early `00`s with the Stones.

  • I think this is a fabulous song. Tried to persuade a musician friend of mine to record it. He declined it.

Either I hope this BB recording is released, maybe with a box set of Holland, or another artist does record it.

It is on Beach Boys In Concert, live version.

  • To answer the question, why was it taken off the album, perhaps because it's a song that relates to both Ricky and Blondie and their country of birth (South Africa) and Apartheid:

I made my home out in the city

Just to see what I could find

Though my heart was in my country

I was not there to close my eyes

Said, I've been tired of all the same

Must've been a Siren in my head

I've been ridin' all my feelin's

All this runnin' and my temperature won't change
