@ReveretheHood today's R6 has the same power as a 1000cc 15 years ago... mind you the R6 is lighter and far more aerodynamic... so if the Liter bikes 15 years ago could go 170+mph then why can't today's R6 ?

@ironmb86 my 2010 R6 stock goes to 260 in 5th gear just like this guys R6... so I don't think he changed any sprockets... 3rd gear gets me to 195kph and 6th gets me 290kph !!!
Plenty of magazine editors got the R6 over 170mph through a speed trap beam not relying on the speedometer.

06 r6 (stock) is 271km/h

i think only yamaha r6 2007 and up yer is good.

@ReveretheHood I don't need a lecture on aerodynamics. The argument was with emtildeathR6 who wrote "R6 has a pick up on the gearbox for the speedo, so sprocket change won't affect the reading". I know that raising the final gear ratio won't necessarily increase the maximum speed because the maximum speed is determined by the frontal area, the Cda and the power. Generally speaking gearing should coincide with the point at which the maximum power matches the maximum drag in top gear.

@droceretik Provided you have the HP to cover that. A 600 does not. It's called wind resistance...An excerpt from Sport Rider:"Aerodynamics becomes more important the faster you go because the power required increases as the cube of speed--in other words, to double your speed, you need eight times as much power to overcome aerodynamic drag. You can quickly reach a point where speed is achieved more easily by improving aerodynamics rather than adding horsepower." Your right, on the moon.

i have a 2001 r6 with power commander and stage 3 jet kit and mine tops out at 181, but i cant say the speed is correct because my sprocket is changed.

scared to do it on my r6

Hahahahaah you busted him with that one ;) thumbs up from me bro !
