Fans Swarm New York Comic Con 2009

The Jacob Javitts Center was filled to capacity, with superheroes, artists, and of course, fans. This was the place to be, to see the latest comics, toys, cartoons and costumes of your favorite characters. This yearly convention brings together the masses of fantasy consumers and creators.

"Oh I'm dressed up as Chun Li from Street Fighter. It's a video game."

"This a Kyle Rayner Green Lantern costume. And this is a Jade costume."

The convention also hosts those who shape the industry. Established industry mainstays, and newer, smaller companies all attended to show off their latest.

"Well we're basically here to show off some of the books that we're working on. Pretty much Eric and I...Eric's mainly the writer and I'm one of the artists. And we basically have been putting books together for a couple of years now. And then we come to the convention to showcase the books."

At the convention we met with the industry's largest distributor of comic books and related merchandise. Diamond Comic Distributors transports comic books to stores throughout the United States. Vice President Kuo-Yu Liang describes Diamonds success.

"Diamond is the world's biggest distributor of English language comics, pop culture, toys, manga, graphic novels. We've been around about 30 years. Privately owned. I think why Diamond's successful is two reasons/ Number one, I think, because we're very focused. We only do comics and pop culture."

A down economy did not stop the thousands of comic fans who packed the convention floor this year.
