The secret to getting closer with God

David was a man of dependency, who leaned on the power of his God and nothing else would do. If you can come to a place where you understand you cant create a clean heart in yourself but only God can then you enter a placed call humility. With humility comes the presence and the grace to walk with God in deep fellowship.
Psa 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Psa 51:11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

The Lord once us to have a focus and the one focus is to seek him and live in his presence forever. That kind of desire and beauty is only given as a gift, it will not nor can be worked up or fabricated. You know you have true fellowship when there is breakthrough and freedom in your life, because that's what the presence of God brings. Notice that David said he desired this will power to seek but he desired this from the Lord. Once again we highlight David's reliance upon God to cause him to go into the presence of the holy one. You must also rely on God as your author and finisher or else you will never have his presence. Stop trusting in you mere efforts and depend on the greatest gift of God grace.
Psa 27:4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.

There was a passion in David that caused him to be consumed by the presence of God and this had to be due to his constant plead before his God " Create in me a clean heart and this thing have I desired of the Lord". He was always looking towards God for the power to seek the presence and have the power to fellowship.
Psa 69:9 For zeal for your house has consumed me...
