I wanted to share these precious moments with Punjabi poetry lovers. The recording is part of my casual conversations with my father and best friend (Sr Basant Singh Basant) who passed away on 30 January 2005.

In this recording he was reciting a poem by his ustad ji (Giani Kidar Naath Baghi). Baghi-ji was a renouned poet of Lyallpur (present day Faislabad) who settled in Gandhi Nagar, Delhi after the partition of India. He passed away in 1959 (before my birth), but I feel he has been part of our family and very much alive through conversations with my father.

My father had great affection for Baghi-ji and continued to recite some of his work until his last days.

I am posting this clip to keep alive some majestic poetry that has given, both, my father and myself great pleasure over the years.

I hope my periodic interjections during the conversations do not spoil your enjoyment of the poetry.
