This performance was part of a clarinet and piano duo recital on March 1 of this year. it took place at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Greater Naples.

The video clip features James Campbell http://www.gamisim.com/artist/jamescampbell/biography/ and Richard Bosworth http://www.richardbosworth.org/bio.htm playing the Leonard Bernstein Sonata, written when he was in his early twenties; shades of West Side Story can be heard in fast sections of the second movement.

  • @chocotastic I find that Robert Marcellus and James Campbell have boring tones that lacks in color and depth. There is no thing such as so internationally renowned that the person is untouchable.

  • Fantastic technique and tone quality in both performers... but the true artistry and soul of this sonata is lost in the break-neck tempi. It was just too fast to be enjoyable.

  • I didn't criticize him as a player or a person, I called this specific performance as I heard it. Look at the music, follow along with it while listening to this recording. There's several spots where the clarinet and piano don't line up the way they're intended to, particularly in the second movement. There are tons of things that went right here. I'm not trying to downplay that. But there was a lot that could have gone right that didn't, due mainly to the tempo.

  • @kenpachihitsugaya Aaahahaha wow. You just criticized one of the most internationally renowned soloists of our generation AND a professor at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Now I'm all for your own opinion, but I think this is like telling Robert Marcellus that his tone isn't "that good."

  • You took both movements so fast...I appreciate the technique it takes to play it at that speed, but musically, a lot of the interaction between piano and clarinet is lost at that speed. :/

  • Do you know where I can find this sheet music for free.I'd like to test it out before buying the original for solo and ensemble contest..

  • solid performance! 4 this piece i would suggest using some vib at the end of phrases especially in the moving parts, iunno i reckon it just gives more colour and feel to the piece.

  • A TREAT! Glad you got movie clips, which means I got to see it after all....a marvelous performance!

  • Fascinating piece, performed magnificently. The composition bears getting to know....
