Thanks for the memories. I was there 1970-1971. Very junior officer. Had a great time - diving, sailing, parties on the beach. It's strange to know we'll never be able to go back to that place or time.

I spent 3 years at McCalla Field (1957-1960). I think they should build some timeshare apartments for veterans to rent at McCalla since they arn't using it now..

I was with 2/8 Marines and spent 6 wonderful months at GTMO back in 1970. We were at Camp Buckeley(sp?) Can't seem to find photos of that area. I'm curious if it is Camp X-Ray now...

One of these days I should dig out my old slides and 8mm and post it here. I spent 2 years at McCalla Field ('66 - '68) NAS as a "lowly" enlisted man. Guess most of it as well as Leeward Point have been shut down or even torn down. It was good duty, served with some great guys and the officers were a pretty good bunch as well. I'm glad to say that I've been able to reunite with five of my buddies and still correspond with three of them, again by e-mail. Many fond memories, ya know?

Great Video; I was there as a dependent 69-72, Active Duty many times onboard ships for REFTRA and then from 90-92 SECDET with my family. Best Kept Secret in the Navy. Loved it there !! Makes me want to upload some of my own video

I was stationed there with 2/8 in 69-70 and while most guys thought it was awful I enjoyed most of it.

Brings back a lot of memories-I lived there as a kid from 60 to 63. Best place we ever lived even though we were evacuated during the missile crisis. I LOVED it there.
