I like that you tell us how it is, and that you are honest with the people that take the time to watch your videos. (I rather like your videos BTW) Please, keep up the good work and i'll be following your uploads.

@kipkay Context. YT is changing into a biz but people don't expect there to be ads. Many channels have been built on parodies of ads and it is hard to tell when someone is switching from a parody to selling something (ex: nigahiga). You come from a background that uses ads all the time but YT doesn't and so it needs to properly inform its audience to keep itself honest. Your kodak ad was a real surprise to me, even with the obvious labeling. I have a family, I get why, but it was a surprise.

@kipkay the reason why it's different has only to do with context. I have been on YT (having gone through several names) since its early days, as have many people. We have come to expect when we subscribe to someone that they will engage in practices that we subscribed to them for. As they change and start getting paid for product placement, we would like to know what's up. Many YT channels became famous for parodies and sometimes it is hard to tell if a product placement is real.

when they ran those ads, every person that I clicked on that ran one got a nasty comment from me and I have not eaten at that place since. I think sxephil was the only one that said "CJ's paid me to do this so here you go"- as you say, its been a while so I may have forgotten a few details.

@kipgay sellout.

hahaa I commented on Kipkays sell-out vid as soon as he put it up the other day and he deleted my comment! (his vid about repacing ink). No joke. Sell-OUTS

They usually get the actual product as payment.
Just like any other medium...you don't have to watch, listen or read what you don't want to. Since Google owns YouTube and designed and markets the Nexus One phone, it's a natural marketing strategy to use YouTube as an advertising medium. And even better for them to use the most popular YouTube Partners to do it.

@kipkay
Just to put your comment in perspective, old friend, have you been given products or money by any company other than youtube to make a video on any subject?
(I was going to leave you out of this!)

@The SillyOldDude - I've been in the video production biz for 25 years. I make videos for a living as well as for the enjoyment of it. It pays my insurance, groceries...etc. I certainly have In the past 25 years been given products (and of course money!) by many companies other than YouTube. Also, you do realize that the hundreds of musicians, movie and TV stars and sports celebrities that "pitch" a product are getting paid, right? They don't say "I'm being paid". Why is YouTube different?

@kipkay
If you read the comments on my most recent video ("Youtube Con Job of the week") you will see how youtubers feel about the Kodak style buy outs...
I am sure you have had similar comments on your Kodak advertisement, so you know what I mean.
I left you out of my attacks on this issue, Kip, because of our former connection on Metacafe..
I wish you had not included yourself in this, my friend.
