Omg I remember this, - ahhhh memories! I loved this game, played it straight for weeks when I was a kid from start to finish. Why they don't release stuff like this nowadays is beyond me?!

That's one of the most important reasons why Tie Fighter is as beloved as it is. To this day, very few games realized the "playing for the bad guys" concept in such a realistic fashion.

It's interesting to think that this game actually portrayed the Empire as not so much the "Dark Side", but rather as trying to restore peace. After watching Star Wars Episode 3, you'd think the Sith was a lot less merciful, after killing all the Jedi children. The empire didn't use to be all evil, but it was back when they were the republic that they followed order and law.
