Director's Commentaries:
Due to space and lighting restrictions, we could not film the bathtub scene in a real bathroom, so we built a film set inside a garage. We found the Victorian clawfoot tub on Craigslist for $25. It was almost 100 years old and weighed about 400 lbs! We spent 2 days restoring it to mint condition. The tall "vases" on either side of the tub are actually cardboard tubes spraypainted black.

The purpose of the painting on the wall behind the bathtub is to add tension to the scene and foreshadow death. It is a caricature of American writer Hunter S. Thompson (who committed suicide in real life). Notice how the skull is no longer in frame when Lily decides not to kill herself.

The clock in the opening sequence is known as a "MacGuffin" (Google it if you're curious), and is a tribute to the great Alfred Hitchcock.

In every "drinking" scene, the performers are actually drinking either water or Sprite.

The best take of the male lead character getting dragged out of the bar had to be deleted because you can clearly see our guitarist Roman laughing in the background.

The "bottle shatters picture" scene required 5 takes before we had a useable shot (we were using real glass, which doesn't break as predictably as prop glass). A new sheet of drywall, photograph, & picture frame had to be set up between every take.

The inter-cutting of two parallel scenes at the end of the video was directly inspired by the very same technique that is used during the final act of every "Star Wars" film.

In memory of my father, a great engineer and architect, one of his blueprints is seen hanging on the wall in the background of one of the scenes.

Our amazing makeup artist Kim Young flew in from New York to be part of this project. Marvelous work, especially on that black eye! She's in Los Angeles now, so hire her if you need a MUA. www.facebook.com/facesbykim

The story was originally supposed to take place in San Francisco, so a ton of exterior shots of the city were filmed as establishing scenes. Unfortunately, all of that footage had to be scrapped for the purposes of time.

Two key pieces of artwork that appear are the creations of the legendary Ralph Steadman, who has illustrated literary classics such as "Alice in Wonderland" and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." Mr. Steadman was gracious enough to grant us permission to use his artwork in the film.

Because the mixing board was located behind the band during the performance scenes in the club, our sound engineer had to spend the entire time crouched & hidden behind a black tablecloth in the background hitting "Play" and "Stop" on the audio track.

Although Lily has several wardrobe changes throughout the film, her boyfriend wears the same outfit the entire time. This is to suggest he has never returned home throughout the course of the story.

An entire take of Seth's solo footage had to be scrapped because you can clearly see Roman's guitar lying idle in the background. All I was really left with was a series of close-ups of Seth's face, which I'm sure our female audience didn't mind...

Our lovely actress Veronica Richert had to sit through a full day of jury duty before we started shooting her scenes. She started at 5PM and worked until 3AM, finishing all of her scenes in one marathon shoot.

The shot of the dead flowers was never part of the original script. Filming took place just after Mother's Day, and I noticed a dying bouquet of Mother's Day roses sitting around my mom's house. So I took them and included them in the video.

The sound effect that is heard before ring appears in the opening shot is a combination of live percussion instruments recorded at Six Weeks Sober's rehearsal studio. The recordings were pitch-shifted and reversed to get that final sound.

It took 3 months of pre-production & planning, the equivalent of 3 days of filming, and over 100 hours of editing to complete this project.

  • Troy's Son has a Great Band here! Wish these guys the best!

  • Pretty Kickass video LT!

  • Koo

  • Thanks for the demo CD, guys! I met you last night at THE INTERSECTION in Grand Rapids with Red. Awesome.

  • NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR: This video in no way endorses or promotes domestic abuse. It is simply storytelling. When there is a bad guy in a story, you have to show him doing "bad guy stuff." If I film a horror movie about a murdering boogeyman, it does not mean I endorse murder, and if I film an action movie about a group of bank robbers, it does not mean I promote robbing banks. Furthermore, the character of Lily wins in the end. She walks away victorious and empowered, leaving the loser behind.

  • THIS VIDEO IS NOT TO PROMOTE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, BUT BE AWARE THAT ALCOHOL CAN PLAY A PART IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.........AND TO SEEK HELP FOR THOSE ....YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!
