rain sucks for hj, 6'6 scissor, 7'3 normal, grrr

Saturday I had one of the worst meets I've ever had. I managed to only clear 2.05m/6'8.75 and it wasn't very good to look at. Absolutely horrible in every way. The problem was that there was a huge wet area right where I began my turn, and I couldn't run a fast approach as I slipped on my first attempt at 2.10m. I was slow and tentative, and basically choked. A horrible result and I felt sick about it to say the least. Today I came into practice with the expectation of trying to find a 'safety' approach to do when it's raining or wet out. I started messing around with my 3 step approach by added a few more steps behind it. I honestly have no idea how I got so much height with so little effort. I just hope it's dry this weekend, but with my last attempt in the rain I'm somewhat confident that I did more than figure out a random approach. There is still so much potential, but unfortunately that hasn't changed much in the last 2 months.

This guy is Dan Olson. He had a PB of 7'4" in high school (which he has a video of on youtube).

And there is clearly about a 10" difference or so from his head to the bar on his last step.

Real jumpers would know that ;)
