Thank you for noting that each asian cultures are different, even between that of China and Taiwan. So many years apart, and under such different political and economical regimes, the people in China and Taiwan seem to have nothing in common, other than maybe language. Great videos!! Make me miss the people and the food a lot!!

where in taiwan is this?

How do you know what to teach everyday? Are you given any kind of syllabus to follow? Were you nervous at first with the students?
-
@moosediggler Actually, you're both wrong. Taiwan requires foreigners pay 18% for the first 6 months of any year, only if their contract ends before the first 6 months of the year is through. Otherwise, it should be 6% all year. Hess makes all teachers pay 18% for the first six months of every year and 6% after that.

why alot of canadians moving to taiwan...asian coming to canada and you are moving out of it.. :))

"If I HAD a lot of money..." Leo the Jr High School Student. Someone isn't teaching the 2nd Conditional. Important at all levels! I'm going to get impassioned!

I don't mean to pick on Jean, but his Chinese is very poor.
I studied Mandarin for 4 semesters. When I talked Chinese with a native Chinese person, usually she would say - Oh, you're pronunciation is very good!
But when a Chinese person said something at normal speed, I was totally lost. It takes about 2 years of dedicated study to become fluent in Mandarin, which means you can handle every day conversations.

can you go to Vietnam to teach English. I hope you will go to Vn in the future
In Taiwan you have to pay 50% tax first six months then 20% after. you can claim alot back but the procedure relies on you trusting somebody to hold the return for you intheir bank account unless you are staying after your first year.
On the whole it does sound like corporate propaganda. i should know i worked for Shane English school! OUCH!
BTW they only pay you for the actual teaching hours and nothing for preparation and other hours spent at the school. Time is money as they say.

Roy, you're incorrect. Tax is 20% until 183 days in tax year, 10% after. You can have your tax return which most teachers get quite a bit from paid direct into your bank account or paid by banque check made out to you, but might need someone to pick it up for you if you are not in the country when the returns are done.

mmmmm, are you sure you want to put all that info on the internet? name, date of birth, alien registration number, passport number, locations, etc. it allows ppl do identity theft. i would not put my personal info out there. i had my id stolen once and that was enough for me. risky, very risky.

You're right, but Passport and ARC numbers were altered. Names and birthdates are widely available on such sites as facebook.
