Thousands of law enforcement officers from all over the country gathered Friday to mourn a Colorado State Trooper killed in the line of duty.

The funeral for Trooper Zacharia Templeton took place at LifeBridge Church in Longmont. A procession with vehicles that stretched for a mile then went to Brighton for burial.

Trooper Templeton was 27 years old, divorced, and he left behind a three-year-old daughter and a brotherhood of law enforcement officers.

His co-workers said Templeton was a trooper for four years -- it was his first post in law enforcement after graduating from the academy.

Templeton worked hard to be a trooper and his family was proud of him, which is saying a lot because his father was an Adams County Sheriff's Deputy.

Last Thursday Trooper Templeton was helping a driver in the median of interstate 76 in Commerce City when investigators say a 17-year-old driver swerved into him and another trooper.

Templeton died at the hospital the next day.

The Colorado State Patrol expected thousands of law enforcement officers at Friday's service.

"It is -- it's a brotherhood," said Master Trooper Ronald Watkins. "Most people really don't understand the day to day things that we see. It's really a tight knit family."

A fund is setup for anyone who wants to make a donation to help Zach Templeton's family:
