It's hillarious how many floor guys here think I'm sanding the wrong way. Before I post the verbatim from laglers Sanding With Hummel - I want to point out a few things to these pros here. If you never owned a Hummel then you have no idea..
STARTING
As you see in figure 11 always start on the left and offset to your right. If you do it the other way your left hand side wheel will always run on the uneven floor and transfers all the waves directly to the drum. You will not get an even floor!

Thanks for posting, I've had my Hummel 8" for a few years and I guess I've been going the wrong way because I learned on an American - My Hummel sands so clean that I haven't had any issues but I guess it's not too late to start doing it the rite way ;-)

Great Video: Hey DustlessFloorSanding Dude...you should disable the comments so you don't have to put up with the wannabe penut gallery. Where are all of their videos? Just remember...after they comment they go practice in the mirror and try to be just like you! You sanded my floors over 20 years ago, they still shine like new and I still see your trucks everywhere.

all sanding is done left to right. no matter what machine. How run the machine right to left and have your guy edge left to right ?
-
BTW, LOL @ the tape on the hose, the same thing happened to me. It's like lagler designed it so a 1.5" hose would fit perfectly under the belt guard and get into the pulley, LOL. Check out my video Hummel Belt Guard for my solution =D

It's not about the pitch, it's about which wheels are directly behind the drum and which aren't. When going left to right with the hummel the leading wheel is on sanded wood, when going right to left the leading wheel is on unsanded wood transferring unevenness and overwood directly to the drum. Read the hummel user manual, it says to go left to right, not either/or.

Hey idiot, lagler hummel sanders are not pitched so you can go r/l or l/r . I have been in the high end wood floor buisness for 30 years !!! So dust;essfloorsanding, who's the rookie now!!!

I haven't used a Hummel...i've been a Frank guy all this time but this guy is sanding Left to Right which we don't do with the Frank...he just look awkward to me, because he is not using the waist belt or the sanding harness which is a big help when you are pulling the machine back on your reverse sand..looking at the machine he is using the drum / belt cover is on the right hand side so really he should be sanding from Right to Left as you said...
Not with a Lagler Hummel machine you Rookie. The wheels are offset to the left of the machine so when you sand to the right it is always cutting on a flat surface. This machine is for professional use only so know what your talking about before you leave a "dumbass" comment like that.
