@anthonycargile Isn't assembly translated into hex? If you get the object dump of assembly code, you would get hex code. When you are writing shellcodes, it's the same as assembly code in hex... right?

You don't put C code or even assembly language into the buffer, as these guys lead you to believe. You put machine language opcodes into it, e.g. binary (or hex) representation of assembly language instructions.
And besides, usually people just overwrite the EIP register value to point to another function planted elsewhere in memory instead of directly injecting code. And if you're into runtime hacking, just play around with overwriting exception handlers and raise one.
