@Urbanmystic123 It's kinda funny... This phrase originated in a Ross MacDonald novel of that name. It meant an expression people have at that point where what needs to be needs to be done, and they almost want to die just for it to be over.

I think Fagan just appropriated it because it was cool.

@localcrew Thanks so much for this comment! I love this record, and listened to it on cassette tape for years, at a landscaping job, which provided the tunes and no real quality audio experience. Though even at 16 bit I never heard that concert drum, which I can hear plainly here with headphones.

What I love about Steely Dan and any Walter' or Donald' associated videos is: they always attract intelligent, deep listeners who educate through comments, and revelation of minutiae. :-)

You need a real good stereo to hear the deep, deep mega-bass drum in the chorus. It's on beat 14 and 16 but I can't hear it on these speakers. Big ol' honkin' concert bass drum. So low it "Hertz"! Get it?
