  • One thing I'd like to see is how well the beam can be focussed.

  • @DevilMaster I can understand your interest - but I'm not sure I can show that adequately with my camera. The laser dot "blooms" very large when I zoom in on it. Maybe I could try filming through my safety glasses....

  • No offence, but have you checked the output of this ? My 150mw green burns electrical tape just as fast.

  • @kmanmx Haven't directly measured the output (not even sure how to do that.) It was marketed as a 1 watt laser, but you're right, it might very well be less.

I can only judge by what I've read online; most comments I've read say that lasers (that are marketed as) between 150 and 300mw have a hard time breaking balloons of colors besides black, and can only light wooden (not paper) matches - and even then only sometimes. If you know of a low-cost way to measure the output, I'm all ears.

  • @brianleahy Thinking about it, it probably is 1w. O-Like are pretty reliable. From what i can tell the beam diameter is much greater than my 100mw green (I don't know why i said 150 before). I can focus it to the width of a hair, which is obviously going to burn well.

  • @kmanmx True, focus makes a BIG difference. Mine has an adjustable focus lens (as does yours, I take it) and I always see a big difference in "burning power" between a wider and a narrower focus. (It doesn't quite get down to a hair's breadth, though.) I might be able to cut tape more quickly if I was able to hold the tape carefully RIGHT at the point of focus.
