The scissor sweep is considered by some to be an obsolete move. I feel that that kind of thinking is not congruent with the evolution of BJJ. We must always grow our knowledge of, and the way we think about, positions and submissions.
So now its "Obviously circumstantial"? when in your previous post it was "almost a given" that your opponent will pass in this fasion?
if you confused your original point than i understand what you are saying...IF your oponent uses the "arm-through" pass AND has piss poor weight dispersion. in MMA or BJJ...ide stay away from this...just my opinion
actually i disagree...it isnt the "standard defence", and nothing is "almost a given". with a low base and proper weight dispersment the arm does not need to be inserted to stop the scissor...what im saying is that these variations are strictly circumstantial...without the insertion of the arm..no sweeps
Read carefully, I changed systems 13th months ago. I started my grappling training in spring of 1996 with a midwest combat judo system. My first official BJJ training was started in spring of 1997 cross training with Franco De Camargo's camp (Black belt under Carlson Gracie) in Santa Ana Ca. I have been rolling since, but I am no master. Yes I am old.
I find this format of discussion beyond the scope of our conversation, I hope I answered your questions.
Damien Maia is on another planet of talent compared to me. He and naturally talented individuals like him are not good comparisons for the average masses like myself. He could train either way and still be exceptional.
Tapskilz, this was great!
What do you think of this scissor sweep variations:
1. knee up on the front of the near shoulder
2. knee in the middle of the chest
3. knee on chest, slightly on the near side
4. knee on chest, slightly on the far side
Thanks alot if you bother to answer...:) Keep up the extremely good work!

Obviously it is circumstantial. All techniques have qualifying attributes. I was discussing the technique within those confines.

@unclesara
well it's probably run by he's top students now. not really sure.
he had past away on sept. 2008. not sure what had happened. but it's tragic that even Grand Mestre Helio Gracie had outlived him.
ahh i see, anyway thanks 4 your time. train hard and God speed.

Whoa, I was not aware Franco was dead. What happened? I know his school still open in the same little spot since at least this August.
I do not posses a black belt. Do to my job I have been unable to stay in a city longer than 4 years.
I work out with a local small time MMA training camp. Hence the switch to no gi.

the late Franco de Camargo.
wow you've been training since 1997 and had only done the NO-GI system a year and 1 month ago? that's more than 10 years.
if you've been training avidly you should be a blackbelt by now.
so where do you train No-Gi if you don't mind i ask?
i'm actually just asking, to find out how you had a rude awakening shifting to NO-GI.
my experience is completely different from yours, although i train NO-GI twice a week and the GI 3 times a week. Ralph Gracie camp.

you see JIUJITSU is just like bricklaying, once you UNDERSTAND how the 1st row i laid, the rest is just an extension of that BASIC concept.
like instead of gi girps, you use over
hooks and under hooks.
